Geyser Gear Guide for Whitewater Rafting in Montana

Montana has some of the best scenic and whitewater rafting in the United States. Incredible areas like Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park offer great rafting opportunities for first time rafters and enthusiasts. Here at Geyser Whitewater Expeditions, we take the threat of cold water and bad weather seriously and always prepare our guests by providing warm gear like wetsuits, water repellent jackets, and warm footwear. Though we will always provide the gear that ensure you are prepared for your trip with us -- here is a list of gear that we use and recommend that can add comfort and style to any future raft trip in Montana or elsewhere.

Standard gear - You should always bring these things on any Montana rafting trip:

Non-cotton clothing made for getting wet
We wear board shorts or other water shorts (guys and girls) and often wear non-cotton, synthetic, or wool base layers under our shorts, even in warmer weather.

Footwear that won’t fall off
This is really important. Footwear like flip-flops or crocs won’t cut it if you fall out of a boat and find them floating away. They also can trip you up while traversing a rocky river bank to get in and out of your raft. We wear Chaco or Teva type sandals that strap tightly or water shoes.

Sun protection
Standard raft-guide gear includes sunglasses and often a hat. Sunglasses reduce glare coming back off the water and can help preserve your vision. Hats can shade your eyes, keep sun off your neck, or face and help reduce the risk of skin damage.

Pro gear - These are a few items that our guides recommend and use daily:

Kokotat - Gore-Tex Meridian Dry Suit
For ultimate protection from cold water elements our guides depend on dry gear. Kokotat has been the leader in producing quality dry gear for river professionals and enthusiasts for decades and we love the Gore-Tex quality of this suit.

Astral Designs - Aquanaut Water Shoe
Quality river gear that won’t break is important, quality river gear that won’t break and will look good while you are walking down main street in Bozeman is the next level. The Aquanaut does just that, we love the quality and style of this shoe.

WRSI - Trident Composite Helmet
Sunscreen and your sun bonnet won’t protect you from rocks and loose paddles, that’s why we love the brim and composite construction of the WRSI Trident. It keeps the sun out of your face and the water out of your eyes while providing a layer of highly engineered safety for your decision making. Very clutch for a good Montana whitewater rafter.

We use and depend on our river gear daily to help facilitate a safe and fun environment here on the Gallatin River. Montana Rafting never disappoints and remember there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear!

My wife wants to go rafting with my family. I don't like water because of past traumas. I'll share this article with her so she knows not to wear any cotton clothing just in case.

Thanks for the tip to bring sunglasses and a hat when you go rafting. I was worried it would fall off. So many I can just get some that I don't care too much about.

It was really helpful when you said that it is important to get the right footwear. My husband was telling me last night at dinner about how he is wanting to look into getting more rafting equipment once he starts going on trips in the summer. I'll make sure to pass these tips along to him as he searches for river rafting equipment to get.

I want to try white water rafting, but I want to make sure that I have the right equipment for this. It makes sense that I would want to get some good water shoes and a dry suit. That seems like a good way to ensure that I handle things properly.

I like that you said that it is necessary to preserve your vision using sunglasses to reduce glare. A couple of days ago, my sister told us that she was planning to have a vacation during summer that is all about rafting, and she asked if I had any idea what would be the best option for us. Thanks to this instructive article, I'll be sure to tell her that we can consult a well-known white water rafting as they can provide more information about the rafting experience.

Is it not scary to do water rafting? It looks scary but at the same time fun.

Wow, this sounds like an amazing adventure on the Gallatin River in Montana! I've always wanted to try rafting there, and it's great to know that Geyser Whitewater Expeditions takes safety and comfort seriously.

I appreciate the gear recommendations you've provided. It's essential to be well-prepared for any outdoor adventure, especially when it involves water activities. Non-cotton clothing and the right footwear are key, as you've mentioned. I can imagine how important it is to have secure footwear that won't slip off, especially when navigating rocky riverbanks.

Property management involves the oversight and administration of real estate properties on behalf of property owners. This includes tasks such as tenant screening, rent collection, maintenance coordination, and ensuring the overall profitability and well-being of the property.

The pro gear recommendations are intriguing too. The Kokotat Gore-Tex Meridian Dry Suit sounds like an excellent choice for staying protected from cold water elements. And the Astral Designs Aquanaut Water Shoe seems like a fantastic combination of quality and style. It's always a plus when you can look good while being functional outdoors. Lastly, the WRSI Trident Composite Helmet seems like a must-have for added safety and comfort.

Durable river gear is essential, but high-quality river gear that also looks great while strolling down Bozeman's main street is the ultimate.
